Fluoride Treatment
Our pediatric dental team may recommend a fluoride treatment to help protect your child’s teeth from cavities. This simple preventive treatment can help your child keep their teeth strong and healthy as they continue to grow and develop.
Why Is Fluoride Important?
As your child eats, drinks and goes about their regular daily activities, the bacteria, sugars and acids in their mouth attack their tooth enamel, making your child’s smile susceptible to cavities. Fluoride works to remineralize and strengthen tooth enamel, making their teeth more resistant to tooth decay and strengthening your child’s teeth as they develop to help keep them healthy.
Fluoride In Your Child’s Day-To-Day Life
Fluoride is a natural mineral and can be found in many foods and water supplies. Your child will receive some fluoride from their diet as well as from brushing with fluoridated toothpaste. However, this may not be enough to fully meet your child’s needs.
During their regular dental visits, our pediatric dentists will check your child’s fluoride levels to determine if a professional fluoride treatment is necessary. If this treatment could benefit your child, we can provide them with professional fluoride in just a few minutes during their appointment. Fluoride is available in the form of a gel, varnish or foam, and is completely comfortable and noninvasive.
